1. Getting Started
  1.1.  Benefits
1.1.1.  The easiest way to get to your products and services.
How many times have you gone to a site and end up being lost and frustrated? Web navigation can be a challenge for some users, so they see a search engine as a lifeline. Given the potential power of searching and the number of people who prefer searching to browsing every page should have either a search box or a link to a search page. Falcon Smart Search Engine is a search engine on your site that is going to give your customers the ability to navigate through your site, locating to do with a specific keyword or item number fast and easily. Actually this is the role of the web site and if you haven'’ got a search engine yet, you should seriously think about this option.

1.1.2.  Keyword Mapping (for Professional and Enterprise versions only)
"Keyword mapping" it is about providing the most useful set of search results that will lead users to what they are looking for. The way this work is that you Look at your search engine’s log and look at the most popular words with which your users are searching your web site. Then you map these words to the pages that are most relevant for that search term, so from the results page the users will go to the pages you want them to go.
The search engine offers you the possibility to attach links to other pages and texts necessary to your clients’ guide to the important pages of your site as well. All these are possible in the "Keyword not found" page.

1.1.3.  Easy to fit in your site
After the search engine installation your site will contain a new web page (search.asp or search.asp). Click
here to preview the default page that would be added to your web site. If you want this page to have the same layout as the rest of your web site you have to modify the two files (header.inc and footer.inc) which can be found in the installation archive. Therefore, header.inc file will contain graphics elements from top and left side of the web pages. Footer.inc file will contain graphics elements from right side and bottom of the web pages. These files will contain HTML syntax and graphics elements. So, if you know HTML syntax you will be able to layout your search page in order to have the same graphics as the rest of the site.
To fit in search page easier Falcon Software offers you a service, which will create header.inc and footer.inc, files for you. Click here fore more details about search engine fit in services.

1.1.4.  One-time license fee and no third party advertisements.
All of our licenses are sold as a one-time fee. Once purchased, you can continue using our searech engine on your web site for as long as you wish.
In case you have more then one web site you can pay once for "Enterprise Version" and you can use this version for all your web sites. Our one-time fee pricing makes our search engine a fantastic value!

1.1.5.  Fit for any hosting package.
After the installation, Falcon’s Search Engine creates a file that saves your site pages. Due to this file, you can search very fast without needing a database or a supplementary server. There are other kinds of searching engines that do not use database but searching is very difficult and web server loading is high. In addition, there are also searching engines that require database. They need a hosting package that contains database support but installation is difficult and needs qualified support not to mention that are also expensive.

  1.2.  Get Details
Falcon’s Smart Search Engine is a new page in your site, which gives your clients the possibility to get to the information, or products they are looking for fast and easily. This page will be accessed with http://www.yourwebsite.com/search.asp or http://www.yourwebsite.com/search.asp.
Falcon’s Smart Search Engine works for any kind of web hosting package. Therefore, for MS Windows platforms the searching page will be search.asp and for the rest of the platforms search.asp. Loading this page in your web site will always be done in your web site’s root folder.

Another important detail of this search engine is the fact that it runs just on your web server without other supplementary servers being needed.
Other search engines need a supplementary server and you will have to pay each month to use them. In this case the search page will be accesata
http://www.aditional-server.com/search.asp?CompanyId=YourID.

Because Falcon’s Smart Search Engine does not need any supplementary servers, you will have 100% control on your search results and through your search results, you will not have any "sponsored links" to other web sites.

After search.asp or search.asp is loaded in, your site root folder Falcon’s Smart Search Engine creates more files which contain your web site pages content. Those files are created only once and are automatic. Those files make finding information in your site easier and faster and do not use your web server resources. If your site contains dynamic content pages, which displays information bases on ID those will not be indexed in Falcon’s Smart Search Engine database.
By example, page http://www.yourwebsite.com/GetDetails.asp?=1 will not be indexed by Falcon’s Smart Search Engine because the content of this page is loaded from a database so in this case the search is made by using directly the existing database. For this kind of web sites, you can use the custom version of our search engine. For more details, please visit the Versions page.

After finishing installing the search engine of your site will contain a new page (search.asp or search.asp). For this page, having the same layout you will have to modify the two files (header.inc and footer.inc), which are found in the installation archive. . Therefore, header.inc file will contain graphics elements from top and left side of the web pages. Footer.inc file will contain graphics elements from right side and bottom of the web pages. These pages will contain HTML syntax and graphics elements. So, if you know HTML syntax you will be able to layout your search page in order to have the same graphics as the rest of the site.
To fit in search page easier Falcon Software offers you a service, which will create header.inc and footer.inc, files for you. For more details about search engine fit in services, click here.

2. How to Install
No matter what version you choose you will get an archive with three folders: "Manual", "ASP", and "PHP".

"Manual" folder contains just a file called "manual.html" that has all the details regarding this searching engine.

"ASP" folder contains the files to use if you have a web hosting on a MS Windows platform. This folder contains three files in "Free Version" and "Personal Version". These files are search.asp, header.inc and footer.inc.
"Professional Engine" or "Enterprise Engine" contain besides the above mentioned another folder "Search Engine Module".

"PHP" folder contains the files to use if you have a web hosting on a platform different from MS Windows, by example Linux/Unix.
This folder contains three files in "Free Version" and "Personal Version". These files are search.asp, header.inc and footer.inc. Professional Engine" or "Enterprise Engine" contain besides these three files, another folder called "SearchEngineModule".

No matter what version you choose Falcon’s Smart Search Engine installation follows four steps:

  2.1  Hosting type determination
The first step is hosting type determination. To find this you have to ask the web hosting company what platform they use. If you have a hosting account on a MS Windows platform, you will use the files from "ASP" folder. If you have a platform different from MS Windows, you will use the files from "PHP" folder.

2.2  Uploading search engine web pages
The second step refers to the files loading from ASP and PHP folder in your web site root folder. We remind you that you have to upload only the files from one of ASP or PHP folders in your web site root folder and not files from both folders. By example, if you have a web hosting account on a Linux platform you’ll upload just the files from "PHP" folder in your web site root folder. You have to pay attention to upload "PHP" folder content in the root folder and not directly "PHP" folder. This means that you have to have search.asp (search.asp for a web hosting on a MS Windows platform) in your root folder.

2.3  Searching Page Link to web sites pages
The third step refers to searching page link to the rest of your web site pages. This link can be done in two ways. Either each web site page will have a link to searching page, either it will have a field where to type the words you are looking for.

To have a link to searching page you have to introduce the following text on each web site page:
   <a href="/search.asp">Search</a>
for a MS Windows platform web hosting account.
   or
   <a href="/search.asp">Search</a>
for a Linux/Unix platform web hosting account

To have a field where to type the words you are looking for you’ll introduce the following text:
   <form action="/search.asp">
     Search: <input type="text" name="txtSearch">
   </form>
for a MS Windows platform web hosting account.
   or
   <form action="/search.asp">
     Search: <input type="text" name="txtSearch">
   </form>
for a web hosting account on Linux/Unix platform

  2.4  Search page layout modification
As soon as you have finished the three steps, your site will continue a new web page (search.asp or search.asp). Click
here to preview the default search page that would be added to your web site. If you want this page to have the same layout as the rest of your web site you have to introduce html syntax and your graphics elements in header.inc and footer.inc files. So, header.inc file will contain html syntax and graphics elements from the top and left side of your web site and footer.inc will contain html syntax and graphics elements from the right side and bottom of web pages.
As an observation, we have to define two styles in header.inc file:

a.SearchTitle - will define search page title link aspect
.SearchContent - will define search page text aspect

If you do not manage to fit search engine in your site we offer you two services which allow you to do it.

3. Updating search results
Professional and enterprise versions have a very powerful administrative module. Using this module you will decide which web pages will be indexed for searching, you can assign keywords for certain web pages from your sites and also you can see statistics with your client’s searches.

This module can be accessed at http://www.yourwebsite.com/SearchEngineModule/. You will have to enter the username and password that you received when you bought these versions. After that will appear a menu with next options in the left part of the page: "Keywords", "Keyword Mapping", "Indexed Directories", "Web Files", "Indexing", "Change master Password", "Backup" and "Restore".

  3.1  Keywords Option
If you click, "Keywords" options will appear a chart with keywords demanded by your clients.
"Rank" column shows how many times that keyword has been looked for.
"Web Page" column represents the page assigned to each keyword.
Initially, the keywords are not assigned to this page and you will get the message "Not set". Clicking on "Not set" the "Keyword Mapping" page will be displayed and you will be able to set a web page for that respective keyword. This assignment means that when you’re looking for that keyword, that respective assigned keyword page always represents the first result from searching page.

  3.2  Keyword Mapping
With this option, you will be able to add, modify, or erase a web page assigned to a keyword. Therefore, the moment you’re looking for respective keyword the assigned page will be displayed first and just after that the pages containing the keyword. In case you don't know which page should be assigned in the "Link" field you have the "?" link that when clicked will display a list with the web pages of your site and you just select the desired page and press the "Set Link" button. The list will close and the "Link" field will be completed with the web page you selected.

  3.3  Web Files
This menu gives you the possibility to choose the web pages types to be displayed in the page containing the searching results. Initially the pages displayed among searching results will have one of "html", "htm", "asp", or "php" extention, but you can add other web pages types such as "jsp", or "cfm".
To add a new extention for the web pages appeared among searching results you have to introduce this new extention in the field situated near "Add" button. After that, you have to press "Add" button.
If you want a certain extention web pages not to appear among searching results is enouhg to click extentions you want to erase and then click on "Remove Selected" button.

  3.4  Indexed Directories
This option allows you to select the files and folders to appear among searching results.
The moment you click "Indexed Directories" will appear the names of the files and folders from the root folder. Second column represents the type of each file. Therefore, a file can be "Web File" if the extention has been defined in "Web Files" section. If the file extention has not been defined in "Web File" section, the type of the file will be "Unknown File".

Third column mentions if the web page will appear among the searching results or not. Therefore, if in the "Status" column appears "indexed" near a web page then the page will appear through the search results. If the "Status" column is "unindexed" than the web page will not appear through the search results.

In case that the status of a folder is unindexed then none of the pages from that folder will appear through the search results. In case that a the status of a folder is indexed click on folder’s name and you can choose which pages from that specific folder will appear through the search results.

  3.5  Indexing
